What’s Special On Women’s Day

International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8 every year, was marked by offering special discount on purchase of cell phones, additional leaves and launch of a digital platform exclusively for women this year.

While Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government has announced 10% discount on purchase of mobile phone by every woman downloading Disha app designed to provide safety and security to women in Andhra Pradesh, the Telangana state government has declared holiday on the occasion for all the women employees. Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar released the orders to this effect following directions from Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

In Andhra Pradesh, Jagan Mohan Reddy also sanctioned five additional casual leaves to women employees marking Women’s Day. He also declared a special holiday for all the women working in the police department on March 8. It was also decided that two women constables from each wing would be felicitated on the occasion.

KCR said that Telangana is committed to the welfare of women and that the government has been taking steps towards women empowerment. He said that the TRS government also launched We-Hub to promote Hyderabad as a business destination for women entrepreneurship.

Reliance Foundation chairperson Nita Ambani launched a digital networking platform – Her Circle.

HerCircle.in is a digital platform designed to provide women-related content which is engaging and upliftment-oriented by connecting women to each other. Every woman can join the platform and users will have access to videos, articles and other strategies on health, wellness, personality development, beauty, entertainment, finance, work and more.

“Her Circle welcomes ideas and initiatives of women from all cultures, communities and countries. We make sisterhood and equality our touchpoints on this platform,” she added.

Reliance’s panel of experts would provide the users of Her Circle with answers to their queries on health, wellness, education, entrepreneurship, finance, philanthropy, mentorship and leadership. It will also help women find new job opportunities suited to their profile and improve their skills.
