In a move to take on the popular video conferencing apps like Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, Facebook has rolled out its group video chat ‘Messenger Rooms’ globally.
The latest feature allows free video calls with up to 50 people with no time limit. These rooms can be created either through the Facebook app or through the Facebook Messenger app.
The Messenger Rooms feature allows the users or admins to set restrictions on who can see and join the room. The users can also make their room public or hide it from other users by making it ‘Admin Only’. Also, guest users who do not have a Facebook account can also enter the Messenger Rooms and join the video chat through the invite link.
Very soon, Facebook Messenger Rooms shortcut will be available on WhatsApp’s Web version. It will enable users to connect with their friends and family via Messenger Rooms from their PCs and laptops. Also, in another feature, Facebook has also rolled out the ability to mark a Facebook Event as an ‘Online Event’ to enable its users connect with others more easily and accurately.
