Yet again, India has registered its highest-ever single-day spike in Covid-19 cases. A whopping 2,61,500 new Covid-19 cases and 1501 Covid-related deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours. Thus, the total count of Covid-19 cases in the country touched 1,47,88,109 and the death toll reached 1,77,150. With 1501 new deaths, India reported the highest single-day deaths.
The last week in the country has been the worst as it witnessed more than 1,90,000 Covid cases on a weekly average which is also the highest in the country so far. With the strong second wave, the country is also witnessing a rise in hospitalisations. Hospitals are under pressure.
This alarming rise in the Covid-19 cases and covid-related deaths led to strict restrictions imposed by several state governments and local administrations. Many cities and rural areas are brought under lockdown-like measures with weekend curfews, night curfews in force.
Meanwhile, the total number of active cases stand at 18,01,316. This is corroborated by the Union Health Ministry which made it official on its dashboard at 9am today.
The health ministry also said that 1,28,09,643 people have recovered from the disease. It said 1,38,423 Covid-19 patients were cured in the past 24 hours. So far, the country has vaccinated 110 million people. Efforts are being made to vaccinate more people in the coming days.
