With the outbreak of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic and the daily spike of cases and death toll, the Union Government has announced ‘Vaccination For All’. Everyone aged above 18 years is eligible to be vaccinated and this would be part of the Phase-3 of the Vaccination drive in the country that starts from May 1st.
The decision on a liberalised and accelerated Phase 3 strategy of Covid-19 vaccination came on Monday evening after PM Narendra Modi held a high-level virtual meeting with the top medical experts and pharma companies in the country.
The meeting discussed the pricing, procurement, eligibility and administration of vaccines and they have been made flexible in the Phase 3 of vaccination drive.
It is said that the meeting decided to empower the vaccine manufacturers to release up to 50 percent of their vaccine supply to state governments and also in the open market at a pre-declared price. The state governments have been permitted to procure the additional vaccine doses directly from the vaccine manufacturers and also allowed to open up vaccination to all categories of people above the age of 18.
