Cow Dung Therapy! Doctors In India Warn Against It

Published by

In a strong belief that applying cow dung and urine over themselves will boost their immunity to beat Covid-19, some in Gujarat have been visiting cow shelters once a week and covering their bodies in cow dung.

The doctors are warning them against the practice of using cow dung as there is no scientific evidence for its effectiveness and it has a great risk of spreading other diseases. The cow dung is used to clean the homes and for prayer rituals in Hinduism, believing it has therapeutic and antiseptic properties.

In the cow dung therapy, the participants wait for the dung and urine mixture on their bodies to dry, they hug and honor the cows at the shelter, and also practice yoga to boost energy levels. Then they wash off their packs with buttermilk or milk.

Scientists and doctors have been warning against these kinds of practices that can spread other diseases from the animal to humans. Also, the practice could spread the virus due to the gatherings in groups.
