Well this did not happen (and can never occur) in India but in Finland and a probe was launched to investigate whether the Prime Minister’s breakfast bill had burned the taxpayers’ money. This erupted a huge row and attracted international attention.
Going into details, a Finnish media claimed that Finland PM Sanna Marin has been claiming back about 300 euros per month for her family’s breakfasts while living at her official residence, Kesaranta. As the report garnered huge attention, the Finland Police launched an investigation to verify the facts.
Meanwhile the PM Sanna responded to this reported and on twitter she wrote, “As Prime Minister, I have not requested a meal allowance or participated in the decision. When I took up the post, I have been told that this includes living and staying at Kesäranta, and that this has also been the case for previous prime ministers.”
The 35 year old also added “I have not made the purchases myself, but all the purchases have been made by the Office of the Prime Minister’s Office and the employees.”
Finland is a small country and politicians are seriously accountable for everything. This case is evidence of it.
