An Azerbaijan passenger jet crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan on Wednesday. 38 were killed in the unfortunate incident. The plane crashed after diverting from an area of Russia that Moscow has recently defended against Ukrainian drone attacks.
29 passengers survived the crash and they are being treated in the hospital. The Azerbaijan Airlines flight J2-8243 was flying from Azerbaijan to Russia before it crashed on the opposite shore of the Caspian Sea.
Russian aviation said there was an emergency that may have been caused by a bird strike, but an aviation expert does not seem to suggest that cause is unlikely.
Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev said according to information he had received, the plane changed course due to poor weather, but he added the cause of the crash was unknown and must be fully investigated.
