Modi-Trump Meet Highlights – MEGA, Illegal Immigrants, Extraditions And More

India Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the US and met with US President Donald Trump amid the reciprocal tariffs announced by the latter.

Narendra Modi and Trump discussed many issues including illegal immigrants, trade deal negotiations, and extradition.

When asked about the negotiating tariff deal during a bilateral meeting with PM Modi, US President Donald Trump said ‘Modi is a much better negotiator than me. There is not even a contest.

Modi emphasized the joint vision of “MAGA” (Make America Great Again) and “MIGA” (Make India Great Again), calling them together to become a “MEGA” partnership for prosperity. The “mega spirit” gives a new scale to the India-US relationship.

Modi expressed confidence in Trump’s support for the initiative to deport illegal immigrants. ‘Those who stay in other countries illegally do not have any legal right to be there. As far as India and the US are concerned, we have always said that those who are verified and are truly the citizens of India—if they live in the US illegally, India is ready to take them back,’ said Modi.

US President Trump approved the extradition of the 26/11 attack accused Tahawwur Rana and PM Modi thanked him for the same. ‘I am thankful to the President that he has decided to extradite a criminal to India who committed genocide in 2008 in India. The courts in India will take proper action,’ Modi said.

‘I don’t think India had a good relationship with the Biden administration…A lot of things happened that weren’t very appropriate between India and the Biden Administration. We are giving a very violent man (Tahawwur Rana) back to India immediately. There are more to follow because we have quite a few requests. So, we work with India on crime and we want to make it good for India…,” Donald Trump said.

The world’s richest person, Elon Musk, met Prime Minister Modi on Thursday and presented him with a special gift. Elon Musk gifted PM Modi a Starship hexagonal heatshield tile, which flew on the fifth test flight of Starship, the world’s biggest and most powerful rocket, on October 13, 2024.
