The growing number of devastating tragedies involving Indian students abroad due to unfortunate accidents has become a distressing trend in recent times. From the past few months, several untimely deaths of NRIs, particularly those from Telugu states, have been reported from various sources.
In another heartbreaking news, an Indian student tragically lost his life in the USA after launching a successful rescue attempt to save three of his friends from drowning. The braveheart victim has been identified as Anurup Reddy Koduru, 22, from Nalgonda district of Telangana in India.
He got drowned at the Toledo Bend Reservoir spillway near the Texas-Louisiana border after his feet became entangled in a submerged fishing wire after he dived to save his friends during an outing on May 29th.
Though Anurup is an excellent swimmer, he could come out alive after successfully helping his friends from drowing in the reservoir. A recent graduate of the University of North Texas in Denton, Anirudh was enjoying a day out with friends when the hapless incident unfolded.
Upon seeing three of his friends in trouble, Anurup immediately jumped into the water to retrieve them. While he successfully rescued all three individuals, the situation took a fatal turn when his feet got trapped in a discarded fishing wire beneath the surface. The strong underwater current pulled him further into the stream, and emergency teams eventually recovered his lifeless body from a depth of 20 feet.
Local authorities, including the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and multiple regional rescue teams, responded to the scene at the Toledo Bend Dam spillway.
The tragedy has left his family, friends, and the university community absolutely shocked. They are mourning the loss of a young soul who made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the safety of his friends.
