Before presidential elections, Donald Trump vowed that ‘America First’ would be his motto if he is voted power. Now, he is making sure to stand by his promise through his strong immigration policies. While tightening the Visa norms to curb illegal entry and stay in US, he is also assuring support to American job holders.
In a significant move, Trump has now signed a new executive order to tighten rules on the H-1B visa program further. The new order targets companies that fired American workers recently or planning to fire them soon. Government departments will now check every H-1B visa application very carefully before giving approval to any company.
The White House said many tech companies and outsourcing firms used H-1B visa to get cheap foreign workers. According to official reports, tech companies fired almost 1.3 million US workers in last few years but still asked for new H-1B visas. Some companies even asked American workers to train foreign replacements before leaving job.
Under this new executive order, departments will share all information with each other. They will review old applications from last year to see if any company broken the rules. If a company tried to replace US employees with H-1B workers, they will face strict action and fine.
The main aim of this rule is to protect jobs for American citizens and make sure foreign hires are only taken for special high-skilled work. Along with this order, President Trump also extended the heavy $100,000 fee on new H-1B visa applications until September 2027.
Now companies who want to hire foreign workers must pay huge money and also prove they did not lay off local workers.
