NYC Smart Toilets With An Embarrassing ’10 Minutes’ Twist

If one has the habit of sitting in the toilet and scrolling reels for a considerable time, the new high tech bathrooms in New York City will make its occupants feel embarrassed because the doors will automatically open after ten minutes before giving a couple of warnings. These smart toilets are now the talking point in the media and the public.

Going into the details, New York City officially started installing brand new high-tech public bathrooms across busy city streets and public parks. Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the rollout of 17 smart restrooms designed to solve long standing public toilet shortages in the city.

The entire project cost a staggering 4 million dollars( 39 Crores approx) with each single unit built at over 235000 dollars using city funds. But here comes the biggest twist.

The most shocking feature of these new public toilets is that doors will open automatically after 10 minutes of use. City officials added this strict timer system to prevent people from spending long hours inside or engaging in illegal activities.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani directly told public users that this is not a place to sit and scroll on smartphone screens. The public can easily unlock these automatic restroom doors using their mobile phones or contactless transit bank cards.

Reactions from local New York residents and social media users are mixed regarding the strict 10-minute automatic door timer rule. Some citizens worry about embarrassing situations if doors open suddenly while someone is still using the toilet. But, the administration feels the time is enough for public bathrooms.

If this initial phase of 17 public restrooms proves successful, city hall plans to expand the project to more locations next year.
