The reopening managed to lure some filmmakers towards theatrical release from making OTT deals. But considering the footfall predictions to theaters, few films decided to go ahead to sign on to the tempting OTT deals for direct digital release.
Despite the huge protest from fans against the release of Venkatesh’s Narappa on OTT, the makers announced the date July 20 for its direct release on Amazon Prime. Well, two more films from Daggubati heroes are said to be in talks for meaty digital deals. Venkatesh’s Drishyam 2 and Rana’s Virataparvam are the said movies in discussion to skip theater releases.
The rumor had it that Narappa chose to opt for the Amazon Prime release as the makers were offered a mammoth 40 Crores for a direct digital outing. Not just that, the other two films Drishyam is heard to be in talks with Hotstar for digital release and satellite rights for a huge 36 crore rupees. Also, VirataParvam is said to be in talks about shaking hands with Netflix before the makers grin and bag a big 50 crore rupees.
When the medium to big-budgeted films is getting stunning offers for direct digital release, the producers who ultimately want to bag some solid money, inclining towards the deals is no rocket science.
