There Is A Surprise Element In Romantic: Akash Puri

Dashing director Puri Jagannadh’s son Akash Puri’s Romantic will be gracing the theatres on 29th of this month. As part of promotions, the actor interacted with media.

Why did you turn emotional at Romantic pre-release?
I heard some negative comments on my dad and of course on me as well. I couldn’t take it and turned bit emotional at the event. My dad too didn’t expect that I would speak like that. He later got calls from his industry friends on my speech.

Why Anil Paduri is chosen to direct the film?
Anil is very close to my dad, as he was doing VFX for dad’s films. It was a big surprise for Anil and me, when dad offered to direct him the film. We connected to each other in no time.

Why did you take long gap, after Mehbooba?
It wasn’t intentional. The start of Romantic got delayed and we shot it in parallel with iSmart Shankar. The film turned big, after Ramya Krishna was cast. After the shoot was wrapped up, lockdown was announced. I was very tensed, whether Romantic will have direct release on OTT. Thankfully, the film is releasing in theatres.

Is Romantic a pucca youthful entertainer?
No. The film has good love story, drama and emotions. In fact, it got U/A certificate. Staying true to the title, we released a Romantic trailer. The film will have all the aspects for all section of audience.

How will be your character in the film?
My name is Vascodigama in the film. It is another special character penned by my dad like Chanti Gadu and Pandu Gadu.

Are there any twists in the film?
The film doesn’t have many twists. But you will definitely feel excited, when you see a surprise element in it.”

What’s your dad’s reaction, after watching the film?
Not just dad, everyone who watched the film turned emotional.

How did you feel, when your dad narrated the story?
I told him just one thing that, I’m ready to do anything, but requested him to tone down the romance part. It was really tough to do romantic scenes.

Will you do a film under your dad’s direction?
He already did enough for me. It’s my turn to give him back. When I’m in success, I’ll definitely do a film with my dad.

Prabhas took part in a promotional event, how did you feel?
The moment with Prabhas was amazing. He likes me a lot. We didn’t call him. He called us to promote the film. We must thank him. He spent whole day with us, despite his busy schedules. We are planning to show him the film.

Do you have interest in writing and direction?
Of course, I have interest in directing. But before that I need to prove myself as an actor. I may direct films, after 10 years. Probably I will buy my dad’s story and direct it.

What’s your next project?
Chor Bazaar is nearing completion. It is coming out well. I played character named Bachchan Saab. I feel happy to play such roles in very early stage of my career. It is being made on big scale. It’s an action and commercial film.
