Kohli’s Removal From ODI Captaincy Sparks A Huge Debate

Just the other day, BCCI declared Rohit Sharma as India’s new ODI captain, replacing Virat Kohli. Recently, Rohit was also given the T20I captaincy responsibilities. Now, Rohit has become the white ball captain of India while Kohli will remain the red ball (Test) captain.

However, the decision of removing Kohli from captaincy is not going well with some of his fans. They showed statistics proving Virat’s excellent record as a captain. When his batting form was questioned, fans explained how well Virat did with the bat as a skipper.

Kohli led Team India in 95 matches in total. The team won 65 matches of them and lost 27. The win percentage is 70.43. Virat also won 15 bilateral series of the 19 he led the team in. That proves he was excellent as a captain.

Kohli also has an average of 72.65 and a strike rate of 98.3 in the 95 matches he captained the team, which is the highest than any other captain in the history of ODI cricket.

BCCI has a different theory in sacking Kohli from captaincy. Speaking to the ANI, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that there can’t be two white ball captains and thus, Rohit was given the ODI captaincy as well.

“It’s a call that the BCCI and the selectors took together. Actually, the BCCI had requested Virat to not step down as the T20I skipper but obviously, he did not agree. And the selectors then did not feel it right to have two different captains for two white-ball formats,” stated Ganguly.

However, fans are in no mood to listen and are lashing out at BCCI for the decision. Meanwhile, BCCI is trying to portray that everything is going well between the board and Kohli by sharing a series of tweets praising Virat’s achievements as a player and captain. Fans are laughing at this attitude and are asking BCCI to stop sharing these damage control tweets.
