As we know, nearly a hundred theatres were asked to be shut down by the Andhra government after they failed to produce all the required documents and papers. The state officials have raided theatres in the name of no Fire Safety Certificates Renewals and no Form-B license. After the situation became worse for nearly a week, the government has now granted permission to reopen the screens.
This is fleeting but certainly a sigh of relief for the AP theatres. The government gave one month time for the theatres to clear all the permissions and the theatre owners will have to file applications with the Joint Collectors before reopening their screens. Right from today, 80+ seized theatres in AP will resume their operations with a condition to complete the license renewal work in the next four weeks.
Also, theatres that closed voluntarily, are expected to resume operations from next week. A couple of days ago, cinematography Minister Perni Nani said theatres were raided only after giving them sufficient time to renew licenses and obtain the required permits.
He also chaired a meeting with film distributors and exhibitors at the Secretariat to discuss ticket pricing, approval of benefit shows, extension for renewing licences and no-objection certificate from the concerned departments, and other related issues.
