When Ajith suggested Pawan Kalyan’s name for this hit film

Thammudu is one of the biggest blockbusters in Telugu cinema in the late 1990s. It established Pawan Kalyan as a popular star and eventually made him the Power Star. But surprisingly, he was not the first choice for this film.

Thammudu was directed by P.A. Arun Prasad. Speaking in a recent interview, he revealed that it was not Pawan, but Ajith was his first choice for this movie.

“I was supposed to do Thammudu with Ajith. We used to stay in Chennai at that time and I used to have a huge circle in Tamil. When I narrated it to Ajith, he suggested to approach Pawan Kalyan,” said Arun.

“I then watched a few earlier works of Pawan and decided to cast him in the film,” he further added. The rest was history.

Thammudu not only became a landmark film in Pawan’s career but also ended up as the same for the entire cast and crew.

It featured Preeti Jhangiani, Aditi Govitrikar, Chandra Mohan and Achyuth in the other pivotal roles.
