Legendary music director Ilaiyaraja gets relief in a case that is pending in the Madras High Court. On Friday, a division bench of the court stayed an order passed in 2019 by a single judge against Ilaiyaraja.
If we get into the story, Ilaiyaraja filed a petition against a few audio labels that are using his work without his consent even after the agreement period was over.
In 2019, a single judge of the court has passed the order, allowing the audio companies to use Ilaiyaraja’s music even after the contract was over.
The judge further stated that producers are the sole owners of Raja’s musical works. The iconic composer was baffled by the judgment and approached the court once again.
In his affidavit, he stated that the judgment of the single judge is unsustainable. He further added that the order passed was against clauses of the Copyright Act, 1957.
The division bench, comprising Justice M Duraiswamy and Justice TV Thamilselvi examined Ilaiyaraja’s appeal recently and issued a stay on the order. The next hearing will be held on March 21.
