SS Rajamouli’s masterpiece RRR is still having a good run in theatres. The film will soon complete 50 days of its theatrical run. Meanwhile, it is now gearing up to enter the OTT space as well.
According to the sources, RRR’s Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam versions will premiere on Zee5 on May 20. The Hindi version will premiere on Netflix on the same day. An official announcement is expected to be made soon.
However, there is a twist in its OTT release. Apparently, Zee5 is planning to implement a pay-per-view model for RRR for a few days. This means audiences have to pay and book a slot to watch the film on Zeeplex.
Earlier, films like Radhe Shyam and Kaali Peeli were released on Zee in this model. But they were direct OTT releases. RRR is entering the OTT space after having 50 days of theatrical run.
Who would be interested to buy and watch it a single time on OTT when they still have a chance to watch it in theatres. Thus, we have to see if this strategy works for Zee or not.
