Though hero Vijay Devarkonda thought that “Liger” collections will start from Rs 200 crores and counting, the reality is quite different as the Puri Jagan starrer failed flat at the box office. With the film’s theatrical business touching almost Rs 100 crores and the film unlikely to collect even 30% of the investment, surely the makers are looking for other ways to minimize their losses.
A report is doing rounds that a leading OTT platform that has acquired the digital streaming rights of the film has approached producer Karan Johar with a quick re-deal.
While the filmmakers initially agreed to stream the film only after 8 weeks after the release of the film, it looks like the deal will be reworked now. The OTT platform is said to have offering 10 crores more to the initial deal, such that they could release the film within one month from the theatrical release date.
Though producer Dil Raju stated that all the new releases will be exercising the 8 week window for releasing on OTT, with “Liger” being a Bollywood film, the rules laid by Telugu Film Producers Council might not get applicable there. We have to see what happens now.
