Re-Release Trend: A Factor Of Joy or Cry?

Holding special shows for old star hero films has become a trend these days in the Telugu film industry. It all started with the special shows of Okkadu and Pokiri which were held on August 8th and 9th, to celebrate Superstar Mahesh Babu’s birthday. The response was huge to this movie.

After that, Power Star Pawan Kalyan fans took the trend to the next level and decided to hold the shows of Thammudu and Jalsa in a bigger way. Thammudu was screened at many centers the other day. Even though it was Vinayaka Chavithi yesterday, people flocked to theatres to watch this 1999 film. Jalsa is re-releasing in more than 500 screens across the world today. Only in Prasads Multiplex, these two movies are given more than 30 shows in these two days.

The surprising factor is that most of the shows went houseful within no time. The collections of these films are expected to be huge for sure. After the success of these special shows, fans of other heroes are planning to follow the trend. So, we will see many more re-releases in the coming days.

Keeping aside the fact that it brings nostalgic vibes to the audience and euphoria in theatres, these special shows will affect the run of small films on the other side. The theatrical run of films like Bimbisara, Sita Ramam and Karthikeya 2 have been affected on a holiday like Vinayaka Chavithi due to Thammudu’s re-release. Otherwise, they would have minted a good amount of money on this non-working day. So, apart from bringing joy to fans, the re-release of old films will also affect the run of good small-budget films to some extent.
