Karthi As Father And Son In Sardar: Director

Hero Karthi is all set to enthrall in his next outing Sardar. PS Mithran directed the movie that features Raashi Khanna and Rajisha Vijayan as the leading ladies. The film is slated for release on 21st of this month. Interim, the director spoke with scribes today to reveal some interesting factors.

How did ‘Sardar’ Happen?
I got the idea of Sardar during the dubbing of my first film ‘Abhimanyudu’. I shared the idea with one of my writers and developed it. I narrated this story to producer Laxman who asked to meet Karthi. Karthi too liked the idea very much and gave his nod to do it without a second thought.

Is the story of ‘Sardar’ set in a period backdrop?
This story takes place in the 1980s as well as in the present day. In 1980, Indian intelligence looked for a soldier to make him a spy. But it wasn’t an easy thing to do. Actually, it’s an obligation for a spy to know how to act and disguise. So, a stage actor was turned into a spy. The story of Sardar was penned based on this real incident. However, there are fictional elements, included in it.

Did Karthi play dual roles?
Karthi’s role will be very surprising. He will be seen in two different roles as father and son. The spy character does not seek any recognition, the outside world is unaware of his existence. Another character wants publicity for every little thing. Both these characters will be very interesting to watch on screen.

How was it working with Karthi?
Karthi is the best actor I have ever worked with. He is very dedicated towards his character. He shares many ideas that are useful for the film. His latest film PS1 was a huge success. I believe Sardar will continue this success streak.

Will Sardar have entertainment quotient?
Sardaar is like a full meal feast with all elements. It has love, comedy, action, strong emotion and a social concept. It entertains all sections of the audience.

What do you say about Diwali Competetion?
Earlier, when I did a film with Sivakarthikeyan, it was released along with Karthi’s movie. Now Sivakarthikeyan’s movie will release along with Karthi’s movie. However, they are two different movies and unique in their own ways. I wish all the movies coming on Diwali will become blockbusters.

How do you feel about Nagarjuna’s Annapurna Studios releasing Sardar in Telugu?
Annapurna Studios is my favorite production house. Nagarjuna’s hospitality is amazing. He shares a good relationship with Karthi. Together, they worked in a wonderful movie like Opiri. I’m happy that Annapurna Studios’ is releasing Sardar in Telugu.

What’s your next movie?
I’m willing to do a film with Akhil. But, as of now, my focus is on the release of Sardar.
