In recent times, the two big films that made a huge splash before the release and can’t stay up to the hype are none other than the Hindi biggie “Brahmastra” and Tamil biggie, Maniratnam’s “Ponniyan Selvan 1”.
Both the films have done a bit well in their native languages, but haven’t shown any mettle outside their territory. Especially in the Telugu circuits, both films were ignored by the audience for lack of great visual effects and drama.
Apparently, both Brahmastra and PS1 are now being streamed on OTT from Nov 4th, on Diseny+Hotsar and Amazon Prime Video respectively.
The point is that, while Ranbir Kapoor has recorded a couple of new promos to promote Brahmastra’s arrival on OTT, there is not much noise from Ponniyan Selvan 1 team about the OTT release of the film. One wonders why Brahmastra is still trying for attention and PS1 is not at all caring about it, but that’s how it happened.
With a mere 30% losses on a whole, both Brahmastra and PS1 have been profitable ventures for the producers as they are readying Part 2 of the respective films.
However, distributors have lost a huge chunk of money outside the native territory and that’s what shocked even trade pundits too. But then, Disney might be promoting Brahmastra because it is their production venture, while Amazon isn’t promoting PS1 much as they know anyway audience will be watching the film provided the fact that audiences outside Tamilnadu want to catch up with the film on OTT now.
