Yesterday, we have seen multiple releases in Telugu. Around 10 films were released in Telugu. The notable ones among them are Allu Sirish’s Urvashivo Rakshasivo, Santosh Shobhan’s Like Share and Subscribe and Nandu’s Bomma Blockbuster.
In Hindi, we have seen releases like Katrina Kaif’s Phone Bhoot and Sonakshi Sinha’s Double XL. None of these movies managed to get good openings on the first day.
One of the main reasons for the low occupancies of these films is the release of big films on OTT platforms. Yesterday, Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra and Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan premiered on Disney+ Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video respectively.
Both Brahmastra and Ponniyin Selvan are among the biggest hits of 2022. Both these films are pan-India releases. They premiered yesterday on digital platforms in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
People who missed watching these films in theatres have watched them on OTT platforms. Thus, the collections of new theatrical releases are dented significantly by these big OTT releases.
