Infosys has expanded its presence in Hyderabad with the inauguration of a new software development block at its Pocharam Development Centre on October 30. The new facility, spread across 1.1 million square feet, adds seating capacity for 10,000 employees and is designed to support an additional workforce of more than 13,000 people under a hybrid working model.
The expansion is significant for Hyderabad’s IT sector, particularly the eastern part of the city, which has been seeking to strengthen its position alongside established technology hubs such as HITEC City, Gachibowli and the Financial District. According to Infosys, the Pocharam Development Centre now has seven existing blocks, with a combined built-up area of approximately 4.58 million square feet. The newly inaugurated building adds another major development to the campus, which is spread across approximately 450 acres.
Infosys CFO Jayesh Sanghrajka said Hyderabad had played a major role in the company’s growth journey and that the expansion reflected its continued commitment to the region. He added that the new facility would strengthen the company’s ability to scale operations, develop specialised talent and deliver complex transformation programmes for global clients.
The company also positioned the expansion in the context of the growing adoption of artificial intelligence by businesses. According to Sanghrajka, the facility will serve as a strategic hub for helping enterprises innovate, improve competitiveness and generate business value as they accelerate AI adoption.
The new centre will focus on several technology areas, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, engineering services and next-generation digital services. Infosys already serves clients across sectors such as banking and financial services, retail, life sciences and manufacturing from its Hyderabad operations.
Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu attended the inauguration, alongside Infosys CFO Jayesh Sanghrajka. The company has also highlighted the facility’s sustainability features. These include energy-efficient radiant cooling systems, smart lighting, rainwater harvesting and wastewater reuse. The building incorporates natural daylight and employee wellness spaces, with an emphasis on improving workplace comfort and energy efficiency.
However, the employment numbers deserve closer attention. While Infosys says the new facility has 10,000 additional seats and can support a workforce of more than 13,000 employees, this should not be interpreted as a recruitment announcement for 13,000 new jobs. The company has not specified how many positions will be filled through fresh hiring, internal transfers or existing employees working under its hybrid model.
For Hyderabad, the larger question is whether investments such as this can help create a stronger technology and employment ecosystem beyond the western IT corridor. Pocharam’s proximity to the eastern growth corridor could make it an important location for the city’s next phase of IT expansion.
