Icon Star Allu Arjun’s 2020 blockbuster Ala…Vaikunthapurramuloo was remade into Hindi as Shehzada. Directed by Rohit Dhawan, this film featured Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles. It was released in February this year.
Right from promos and trailers, Shehzada failed to impress the audience. The result was no better when it hit the theatres. The film failed to attract eyeballs and ended up as one of the biggest disasters of this year.
For a long time, Bollywood has been taking the easy route of remaking South Indian films. Though this formula worked in the past, it cannot work well now. Many people are watching the original flicks with subtitles on various OTT platforms. So, they aren’t showing interest in watching remakes in theatres.
Moreover, Shehzada was a poorly remade film. It recently premiered on Netflix. People who watched the film on the streaming platform started trolling it badly on social media. It is high time for Bollywood to realize that audiences are not going to watch every remake film, and they need to come up with original content than copying mainstream South Indian flicks.
