When there are at least two films releasing every Friday, the success rate is so low that only one film is turning successful for a whole month. March had Dasara and April had Virupaksha which emerged as blockbusters all over. Almost all other straight Telugu films released in those two months were disasters, that include Shaakuntalam, Agent Raavanasura, Meter, and more.
It looks like May did not even have that one big success. The month of May was completed ruled by two dubbing films at the Telugu box office. One is Vijay Anthony’s Bichagadu 2 and the other one is 2018. One Telugu film Mem Famous survived but could not be as successful as these two dubbed movies.
Bichagadu 2 was promoted well and his Bichagadu fame worked for this movie’s positive result. Coming to 2018, it’s a complete surprise package that fetched profits multiple times to the investment in Telugu as well. The survival thriller made based on the Kerala floods turned out as the biggest hit in the month of May.
Apart from these two dubbed movies, no other movie could make noise at the box office. We had straight Telugu movies like Rama Banam, Ugram, Anni Manchi Sakunamule, Custody, Men Too, and Malli Pelli, and none of these managed to become successful.
