Three Small Films – A Big Lesson To Tollywood

Published by

The film industry is witnessing a shift in audience preferences, as the notion that visual grandeur is necessary to attract viewers to theaters is gradually fading away. In 2023, films made on a low budget have defied expectations and proved that they can be successful even without a pan-India release.

Emerging directors like Venu Yeldandi have showcased their talent by delivering high profits and winning numerous international awards, with the movie Balagam.

Even in the case of “Samajavaragamana,” a film that didn’t have high expectations before its release performed so well at the ticket windows. Sri Vishnu, who had faced three consecutive failures, managed to win the audience over with a simple comedy, grossing 40 crores within a month.

Another recent sensation is “Baby,” a youth-filled story that has been creating a buzz and attracting a strong following.

What’s noteworthy is that these successful films were made on a modest budget, and two of the three directors were making their debut. The business model behind these films has been reasonable, benefiting both buyers and producers. It proves that if a film has engaging content, the audience will buy tickets without any hesitation.

A film like Writer Padmabhushan has been successful in winning audiences’ thumbs-up but failed commercially.

The success of all these movies should encourage others to focus on delivering content-driven cinema and showcase that financial success can be achieved even without astronomical budgets.

Let us wait and see what’s in store in the coming days, for Tollywood.
