Ever since the beginning of the OTT era in India, the Bollywood folks are delivering some stunning stuff like Sacred Games, The Family Man, Secret Ops, Scam 1993, Scoop, Made In Heaven, Mirzapur and many other successful web series for top players like Netflix, Amazon, Hotstar and Zee5. However, the super successful leaders of the commercial cinema market, the Telgu filmmakers, are not able to see similar success in the OTT arena.
The likes of Krish, Nag Ashwin and many others have tried their hand in the OTT arena, but most of their projects looked like any other commercial Telugu movie offering nothing new. And the trend has now come to a situation where the leading Telugu OTTs are relying mostly on remakes. Aha is picking up Hindi YouTube content made by TVF, and remaking it in Telugu. Similarly, top players like Hotstar are also remaking, for example, JD Chakravarthy’s Daya a remake of a Bengali series Taqdeer premiered on Hoichoi.
There is no denying the fact that even Bollywood is remaking lots of international web series into Hindi and casting top actors in it, they are also successful in making original content as well. But from the Telugu arena, the original web series is not coming and the Tollywood’s hawa on OTT hasn’t yet begun. We have to see our filmmakers or new age and upcoming movie directors are taking OTT seriously or not.
