GOLD Failed To Attract, Will GIFT Do It?

One of the stupendous classics that came from the Malayalam film industry which also ran commercially well at the box office is none other than “Premam” movie. The film’s runaway success made the likes of Nivin Pauly and Sai Pallavi overnight stars, while director Alphonse Puthren turned out to be that gem of a filmmaker. That was in 2015 and the director took 7 years to make his next, which did the unthinkable.

In 2022, Alphonse Puthren came up with the movie “GOLD” which has an interesting short point but lacks depth and strong emotions that would churn hearts. Featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role and Nayanthara as the leading lady, the movie failed to click. More than that, many have trolled Premam director for making such a simple movie when they are expecting the stroke of a genius from him. This led to even the director expressing his frustration on social media against the audience. And now, he announced his next, a year later, which is titled “GIFT”.

Featuring Mallu actors like Sandy and newcomer Sahana Sarvesh in the lead, the film has the background score rendered by Ilayaraja. And the title announcement video that came the other day has this fantastically done aalapa by Raja garu along with his trademark strings. We have to see if GIFT would bring Premam director’s fame back, while GOLD failed to do earlier.
