Netflix Stops Streaming ‘Uncut’ Indian Films Globally

Gone are the days when one could watch the uncut, uncensored versions of Indian films on Netflix. The censor board levied rules on Netflix to stream only the censored versions of Indian films from now on.

Netflix has fully stopped streaming the uncensored cuts of Indian films, with an increasing number of films with political references and ‘A’ rated content.

The film Bheed had voice-overs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal along with other political references. They were edited out after CBFC ordered to and Netflix chose to stream only the edited version instead of that the filmmakers had prepared. Now, it is being applied to all Indian films.

Also, Thalapathy Vijay’s LEO which was released uncut in overseas markets, was released on Netflix with a censored one. OMG 2 a film about sex education also released and censored which led to the film’s director complaining about Netflix’s decision.

Karthi’s Japan also had mentions about Ambani and Adani, but Netflix is streaming the version without the men named. Netflix recently started including smoking and drinking warnings for Indian shows and movies during the concerned sequences.

So, the director’s cut versions of movies will no longer be streamed on Netflix and this move is a disappointing one for a good number of directors and viewers also. One wonders what is going to happen with the streaming of Animal and Salaar films that are a bit extra violent and obscene.
