Using ‘Artificial Intelligence’ means, for most people, it is just to automate the work and reduce the creative burden as well as production time. But then, AI should be used in the right way and legendary composer AR Rahman shows it how.
For the upcoming film ‘Lal Salaam’ that features Superstar Rajnikanth in a guest role, and directed by his daughter Aishwarya, AR Rahman is the composer. Using AI technology, the Mozart of Madras has now brought back the voices of two dead Tamil singers, including Bamba Bakya who died last year after a cardiac arrest, and Shahul Hameed of ‘Urvasi Urvasi’ song fame, who died in 1997. For the song #ThimiriYezuda in Lal Salaam, Rahman used AI-backed digital technology to sample their previous voices and created a song that now sounds like, sung by Bakya and Hameed themselves.
Commenting on the same, Rahman said, “We took permission from their families and sent deserving remuneration for using their voice algorithms..technology is not a threat and a nuisance if we use it right…#respect #nostalgia 🙏”.
Well, Rahman always stood first to use technology and progressively drove things in the music industry. That’s why the composer became a legend, not just because he won National Awards, Filmfares and an Oscar.
