Well, there are two films at the moment that gained attention with the announcement itself. One is Naga Chaitanya’s Thandel, for its title and being directed by Chandoo Mondeti, while the other one is Varun Tej’s Matka, for its vintage content and extensive budgets. But it looks like, Amazon Prime Video is now bringing content that is pretty much close to the storylines of these two movies.
First comes, Satya Dev’s Arabia Kadali, which happens to be the story of a group of fishermen from rival villages who trespass into international waters and find themselves imprisoned in a foreign jail. Well, if we go by the first glimpse of Chay’s Thandel, even he appears as a fishing boat captain, imprisoned in a Pakistani jail. Many are wondering how a similar storyline is coming out at around the same time.
The comes Prime Video’s Matka King has Vijay Varma in the lead, which is loosely based on a real story, how a cotton trade starts the Matka game and becomes a mafia. Earlier some reports indicated that even the story of Varun Tej’s Matka is similar to this, happening in Srikakulam backdrop in a vintage setup.
Arabia Kadali and Matka King are surely close to the stories that are being narrated in Thandel and Matka respectively, and if those series get released early on the OTT platform, then comparisons are bound to happen and might affect the box office success of these two Telugu movies. We have to see what happens.
