It is harder to protect one’s stardom these days – Deverakonda

Following the massive success of Baby, Anand Deverakonda returns to the theatre with Gam Gam Ganesha, a crime comedy scheduled to hit theaters on May 31.

Nayan Sarika and Pragati Srivastava play the film’s female leads while the movie is directed by newcomer Uday Bommisetty.

Gam Gam Ganesha features the otherwise softly-portrayed Anand in a vibrant role that offers him ample opportunities to display his skills at comedy, dancing and action.

Anand admits that Uday’s vision surprised him and that he will playing a role miles away from his ones he had previously portrayed.

Talking about his film’s themes in an exclusive chat with Gulte.com, Anand reveals that Gam Gam Ganesha has fun action, as opposed to heroic action.

When asked to distinguish these two categories, Anand says that the film’s treatment is akin to the recently released Hindi film Madgaon Express, where an element of lightness and comedy is present throughout the narrative even when the stakes are extremely high for the film’s characters.

Taking the example of Johnny Depp’s iconic Jack Sparrow from The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Anand also tells that the role he plays thinks he is a hero, when he is anything but one.

When enquired about the changing dynamics of stardom through his career, Anand replies that the rise of OTT and a pandemic, among other things, have personally taught him that situations change all the time and that no one truly has an answer for how stardom is going to evolve in the future.

That said, Anand believes that it is harder to protect one’s stardom today than ever before. According to the actor, stars who are noticed the most these days are either extremely authentic or fake.

Anand will be seen next in Duet opposite Ashoka Vanamlo Arjuna Kalyanam-actor Ritika Nayak. The film is produced by Chennai-based production banner Studio Green.

In addition to this, his next couple of projects will see him reunite with his Baby collaborators SKN and Sai Rajesh as well as his Middle Class Melodies director Vinod Anantoju.
