‘A Cinema for Us’, IAS Officers Seek Free Films in Private Theater

Normally, people who want to watch movies go to theaters or, with the rise of OTT platforms, watch films at home. This is a convenient option for the general public. However, for IAS officers who are constantly busy with government duties, finding time for leisure is a challenge. No matter how high-ranking they are, they too have families and want to spend quality time with them, which often means watching movies.

But, due to security concerns, the influence of social media, and other factors, IAS officers are facing challenges when it comes to maintaining privacy. As a result, they cannot easily go to public movie theaters without losing their anonymity. With this in mind, an IAS officers’ association in Vijayawada has built a small, private movie theater. It accommodates 48 people, allowing them to watch movies comfortably in a private setting.

During weekends, these officers, along with their families, visit the theater to enjoy films. In this context, they have sent a request to the Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber. They have asked for support in screening newly released films at their mini-theater. More specifically, they have requested that these films be screened free of charge. The officers have asked the Film Chamber to cooperate with them in making arrangements for the weekend screenings of these films, for themselves and their families.

It’s noteworthy that senior officials like IAS and IPS officers typically receive complimentary passes to regular movie theaters. However, since they are requesting that films be shown specifically in their privately established mini-theater, it remains to be seen how the Film Chamber will respond to this request.

It will be interesting to observe what decision the Film Chamber takes regarding this unique request.”
