Nandamuri Balakrishna has continued his post-COVID wave hit streak with his latest film Daaku Maharaaj. The film grossed more than Rs. 160 crores at the box office and ended up as a bigger success than Balayya’s previous hits Akhanda, Veera Simha Reddy and Bhagavanth Kesari.
Even though the film is Balayya’s career-biggest grosser, it is yet to cross the breakeven mark in many areas. After the first two days, the collections were significantly dropped in many areas. The box-office storm created by Venkatesh’s Sankranthiki Vasthunnam was major reason behind it. And also, lack of family appeal also cost Daaku Maharaaj in pulling the crowds to the theatres.
Daaku Maharaaj was produced by Naga Vamsi under the Sithara Entertainments banner. Coincidentally, all of Vamsi’s recent releases were affected by their competitors. Last Sankranthi, Superstar Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram’s collections were affected by Hanuman.
During Diwali, Lucky Bhaskar’s collections were affected by Kiran Abbavaram’s Ka and Amaran. Despite getting super positive talk, Lucky Bhaskar failed to perform to its potential in its theatrical run. Now, Daaku Mahaaraaj is facing the same fate.
For Balakrishna and his fans, Daaku Maharaaj might be a big hit but as a producer, we don’t know if Naga Vamsi is completely satisfied by the film’s result.
