This Valentines’ Day, there were four notable releases in Telugu states, which include Vishwak Sen’s Laila, Brahmanandam’s Brahma Anandam, Vicky Kaushal’s Hindi film Chhaava and Marvel’s Hollywood flick Captain America: Brave New World.
While the other language films did well in Hyderabad, Telugu releases failed to impress the audiences. On the whole, Naga Chaitanya’s Thandel did well in Telugu states than new releases.
Vishwak Sen’s Laila collected a worldwide share of just Rs. 1.6 crores in its first weekend and may result in double losses for the parties involved. It also ended up as the biggest disaster in Vishwak Sen’s career.
On the other side, Brahma Anandam failed to create any interest among the audience. People who watched it praised performances but criticized the wafer-thin story and lacklustre screenplay. It also became the first disappointing project in producer Rahul Yadav Nakka’s career.
Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava is having a phenomenal run at the box office. It already crossed Rs. 121 crores at the box office and became the first blockbuster in Hindi this year. It is set to create more records in the coming days. The film is based on the life of Chhatrapati Shambaji Maharaj.
Marvel’s latest outing Captain America: Brave New World opened well in Hyderabad but the overall collections were not encouraging. Thus, it ended up as another disappointment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
On the whole, Valentines’ Day weekend ended up as a disappointment for Telugu audiences and many of them preferred watching last week’s release Thandel.
