Aamir Khan Shifts Focus to South Directors; Vamshi Paidipally in Talks?

After the disappointment of Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan seems to be leaning more towards collaborating with South Indian directors than trusting Bollywood filmmakers. As part of this shift, he has agreed to do a special role in Rajinikanth’s Coolie. There’s also strong buzz that he will soon team up with Lokesh Kanagaraj for a full-length feature.

The Chennai talk suggests that the two have found common ground for a superhero subject. However, Lokesh is currently busy with Coolie and is expected to move on to Kaithi 2 next. So even if Aamir says ‘yes,’ this project might take some time to materialize.

But that’s not the main point. The real focus is on a Tollywood director – Vamshi Paidipally.

After directing Vijay’s Varisu in 2023, Vamshi has been relatively silent. Though Varisu was a commercial success, it faced criticism for its soap-opera-like treatment and predictable storyline. These factors are said to have caused delays in locking a big star for his next film.

Now, the latest buzz is that Vamshi is currently working on a script for none other than Aamir Khan. The Bollywood superstar is reportedly interested, but he’ll give the green signal only if the final version of the script impresses him.

If this combination works out, it would be a jackpot for Vamshi Paidipally. Except for Munna, most of his films like Brindavanam, Yevadu, Oopiri, and Maharshi have been solid hits. That’s why Vijay quickly said yes to Varisu after hearing the story. If Aamir Khan is now showing interest, it’s no small thing.

Sources say that Mythri Movie Makers is trying to set up this combo. While it’s common for star heroes to take a break, it’s surprising that an experienced director like Vamshi is taking this much time to get going again.
