Veteran actress Simran, known for her versatile performances across South Indian cinema, is making headlines after her powerful speech at the JFW Movie Awards 2025 surfaced online. While graciously accepting her award, Simran subtly addressed a hurtful comment from a fellow actress, which many believe was aimed at Jyothika.
Simran, who has gracefully embraced diverse roles—from playing a mother in Amrutha to Suriya’s wife and mother in Surya S/o Krishnan—highlighted the importance of character-driven roles in her speech.
“I recently messaged a female co-star, complimenting her on her role. I said I was pleasantly surprised to see her in it. She replied, saying, ‘At least it’s better than doing aunty roles.’ That was very insensitive. I wish I had a better comeback, but honestly, it’s okay to do aunty roles, main aunty roles, or play the mother of a 25-year-old, rather than do dabba roles,” Simran shared.
The keyword “dabba roles” caught the attention of netizens. Many speculate that Simran may have been indirectly referring to Jyothika, who recently starred in Netflix’s Dabba Cartel—a project that received lukewarm response, with her role lacking strong impact.
Simran’s classy yet candid statement is now going viral, with fans appreciating her stand on age representation and substantial roles for women in cinema.
The acclaimed actress also made a surprise cameo in Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly, continuing to prove her screen presence and range.
