‘Chhaava’ director Laxman Utekar strongly reacted to Anurag Kashyap’s recent remarks on Bollywood.
He said filmmakers who claimed that the audiences never understood their films, shouldn’t make such films in the first place, instead he advised them to write a book on their story.
Utekar said none had asked “these filmmakers” to bring about a revolution or change the system with their storytelling. Rather than acting like intellectuals, filmmakers should just entertain audiences with their stories.
Kashyap expressed his displeasure with the Bollywood for not making films like Pushpa. He criticised the industry for its toxic atmosphere. He said the industry has only focused on the box office numbers rather than giving attention on creativity.
Reacting to it, Utekar said Kashyap should leave the industry and go wherever he wants. “If you want you are free to go, no one is forcing you to stay.” Utekar said Kashyap was stuck in the past and needs to move on as the industry is beaming with young talented professionals who have the freedom to choose their own paths.
Kashyap said audiences lack the sensibility to appreciate the kind of cinema he makes. “He is wrong. When he says audiences lack the sensibility to appreciate his films. He doesn’t have the sensibility to accept the taste of audiences. Hindi films are making 800 crore business at the box office, how can he say cinema is dying?” he questioned.
