Star Couple’s Shift: Suriya in Tollywood, Jyotika in Bollywood

After nearly 15 years, actor Suriya is appearing in straight Telugu film. His last straight Telugu flick was Rakta Charitra 2, which was directed by Ram Gopal Varma, came in 2010. 

Since then his presence in Telugu film industry has been limited to dubbed versions of Tamil films. Over the years, he amassed a huge fan base here in Telugu States. Audiences enjoyed his works especially Surya Son of Krishnan.

Despite his strong presence on the screen and pan-south appeal, Suriya hasn’t tried anything new beyond Tamil cinema. His recent flicks ‘Retro’ and ‘Kanguva’ turned out to be duds.

Leveraging his popularity, Suriya is slowly making moves to solidify his spot in Tollywood. He joined hands with Venky Atluri for an untitled film. The shoot got kickstarted in May this year with a formal pooja ceremony in Hyderabad. The film is expected to release in 2026.  

As per reports, another film is currently in pre-production with Chandoo Mondeti. The film is being bankrolled by Geetha Arts.

Meanwhile, his actor-wife Jyotika has made a comeback on Hindi silver screen. After flop debut way back in 1998 with ‘Doli Saja Ke Rakhna’, she stepped into Bollywood with 2024 horror film Shaitaan and 2024 biographical film ‘Srikanth’. And later this year, she made her OTT debut with ‘Dabba Cartel’. 

Jyotika will soon share screen space with Sonakshi Sinha for a courtroom drama. The two actors will have powerful roles to play in Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s upcoming film, a hard-hitting legal drama produced by Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani and Harman Baweja, under the banners Excel Entertainment and Baweja Studios.

The film was originally planned to cast Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kiara Advani as the lead actors, however, it didn’t align with timelines and creative direction and the team has decided to rework the script and start afresh. 

Fans are happy that star-couple Suriya and Jyotika are expanding their market with a variety of filmographies.
