Dil Raju Draws the Line: No More Paid YouTube Views

It’s the elephant in the room that no one in Tollywood wanted to address—until now. The practice of artificially inflating YouTube views for film teasers and trailers has become routine, with producers shelling out lakhs to boost numbers and impress fans, OTT partners, and the general audience. From big-budget blockbusters to small-scale films, this numbers game has been rampant. Yet, not a single industry bigwig has spoken out—until ace producer Dil Raju decided to break the silence.

At the grand trailer launch of his upcoming film Thammudu, Dil Raju took a bold stand. Addressing the media, he said, “I’ve wanted to speak about this for a long time. Today, as we release the Thammudu trailer on YouTube, I want to make it clear: the views you see are 100% organic. I’ve instructed my PROs and digital team not to spend a single rupee on buying views. These numbers reflect real audience interest, nothing else.”

Dil Raju didn’t mince words. “If we manipulate views, we lose track of genuine audience response. It becomes impossible to analyse what’s working and what’s not. Inflated numbers may look good on paper, but they do nothing for the actual reach or impact of the content. I’m taking the first step—let’s put an end to this practice,” he urged, calling on the media to highlight and question such manipulations.

He cited examples like Sankranthiki Vasthunnam and Court, both box office hits that didn’t rely on inorganic YouTube numbers. “Content is king. If the film is good, the audience will come,” he asserted. Dil Raju also shared a light-hearted anecdote about one of his earlier films, where a video hit 10 million views overnight, leaving even his family puzzled. He admitted, “Back then, we boosted the numbers. But now, it’s time to stop.”

On the professional front, Dil Raju is pushing boundaries with his new ventures, Dil Raju Dreams and LORVEN AI, aiming to bring fresh dimensions to Telugu cinema. His next big release, Thammudu, starring Nithiin, Sapthami Gowda, and Laya—is set to hit screens on July 4th. With the film’s promotions kicking off on a progressive note, Dil Raju’s move is a wake-up call for the industry.

Will other filmmakers follow suit? Only time will tell. But for now, Dil Raju has set the ball rolling.
