Despite the filmmakers exploring new technologies and adapting new models, they are not able to ensure the safety of stuntmen on the sets. In a tragic development, stunt artist SM Raju, who works in Tamil cinema, died on the sets of Arya’s upcoming film, directed by Pa. Ranjith. The video of the accident is currently going viral on social media.
As soon as the director called the shot, it was a car-chasing sequence, and the stuntman Raju was sitting in a car that performed a stunt and then crashed to the ground. The crew completed the shot and approached him, only to see him in distress, which eventually led to his demise.
Actor Vishal, who collaborated with Raju on multiple films, took to social media to confirm the news and offer his condolences. “So difficult to digest the fact that stunt artist Raju passed away while doing a car toppling sequence for Jammy (@arya_offl) and @beemji Ranjith’s film this morning. I have known Raju for many years, and he has performed numerous risky stunts in my films time and again. He was such a brave person. My deepest condolences, and may his soul rest in peace.”
Raju was a respected and seasoned stunt artist in the Kollywood industry, having worked on numerous big-budget films. Additionally, Raju was always on the front line, performing high-risk action sequences.
According to reports, Raju was working on the sequel to the 2021 Tamil sports drama, Sarpatta Parambarai. The film is scheduled for a grand release next year.
