Earlier this year, Court: State Vs Nobody quietly hit Telugu cinemas. It was a small film with a tight budget, led by Priyadarshi as a junior lawyer tackling a tough POCSO case. Word of mouth did the heavy lifting, and the film ended up one of the most profitable in recent memory.
Beyond theaters, Court found a solid audience on OTT, especially through dubbed versions that brought in non-Telugu viewers. The numbers tell the story, reports say it grossed close to ₹60 crore worldwide. Nani, whose production house Wall Poster Cinema backed the film, even called it their most profitable outing to date. So naturally, other language industries started paying attention.
Now, Tamil cinema is officially jumping on board. Veteran actor-director Thyagarajan has acquired the Tamil remake rights. The remake is in pre-production, with actor Prashanth returning to the spotlight after The G.O.A.T., stepping into Priyadarshi’s shoes.
Thyagarajan will co-direct alongside producer 5 Star Kathiresan. Kathiresan’s son Krithik and actress Devayani’s daughter Iniya are likely the new leads. Rumor has it Thyagarajan himself might take the role Sai Kumar played in Telugu, reuniting on screen with his son Prashanth after years.
Here’s the thing, remakes don’t always get the same buzz anymore, especially when dubbed versions are so accessible. The big question, how will the Tamil version keep what made the original hit while tailoring it for a different audience? It’s a bold move. Or maybe just overdue. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see what this remake brings to the table.
