Anupama said that when making movies it is important to respect the audience because they spend both time and money to watch films in theatres. She shared that being an actress comes with pressure to meet expectations and avoid judgement. In the early days of her career she felt insecure about her looks like her hair and eyebrows and did not have the confidence to speak up. Over time she learned to voice her opinions and say no to things she was not comfortable with.
She explained that during the 2020 and 2021 lockdown she changed a lot after working on a short film. She became more confident and emotionally stronger. She now accepts her unique traits and focuses on doing different roles instead of repeating the same type.
Anupama wants to break free from being given the same kind of characters and explore her full potential. She likes when actors take risks and do unusual roles even if some fans do not like it because it shows their dedication to the craft.
She also spoke about the value of having women in key roles in her film Parada such as writers editors and cinematographers. She said women bring a special perspective that makes female characters more real and relatable. For example they understand details about women’s lives like periods and add those touches to the story.
Anupama knows that fans sometimes feel they can decide what roles she should take but she believes actors should make creative choices for themselves. She respects her fans but does not want to please everyone at the cost of her growth.
She likes having open discussions with directors and crew to improve the film. She is known for questioning things she does not agree with but sees these debates as healthy. She shared an example of a director who shouted at a co actor showing disrespect which she compared to directors like Pravin who encourage constructive talks.
About Parada she said she is proud of the film and wants it to succeed in theatres. The film had trouble finding buyers but the team believes in it and does not want it to go straight to small screens. She asked the audience to watch it and share honest reviews as they do not have the budget to pay for fake ones.
Anupama said the film industry is mostly male dominated so it is harder for women to speak up. She is used to it but likes when women are in important positions. She praised the women on the crew of Parada like the writer Puja and the cinematographer for making the film more authentic.
Her wish is for Parada to inspire more unique stories and give other directors the courage to take risks. She hopes it leaves a lasting impact and proves that good cinema can be both commercially successful and emotionally touching.
