In politics, sometimes even a few thousand votes can cause a huge effect. That is exactly the case in two local body by-elections happening in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district. The ZPTC elections in Pulivendula and Ontimitta may have barely over ten thousand voters each, but the result is very much important for both the YSRCP and TDP.
Pulivendula, the home turf of former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, is now a testing ground for his party’s resilience. The YSRCP is desperate to prove that its influence in the region has not faded despite losing power. For the TDP, it is about showing that even Jagan’s political stronghold is no longer beyond reach. Both sides have turned the contests into prestige battles, with high-voltage campaigning and local tensions running high.
What makes it even more interesting is that the winners will hold the position for less than a year, yet the political impact will last far longer. In this battle, it’s not about the term. It’s about bragging rights and building momentum going forward and build confidence in cadre.
