Senior Bollywood hero Anil Kapoor enjoys a special fan base. Even after crossing sixty, he continues to work actively with full energy as a versatile character artist. Thanks to Animal, Telugu audiences connected with him even more recently.
Back in the 90s, Anil Kapoor was a strong contender to the Khans with his trademark mustache and unique style. Interestingly, his career actually began in Tollywood. In 1980, he made his solo debut with Bapu’s film Vamsa Vruksham. However, since the film failed, directors here did not recognize his potential and he returned to Mumbai.
From there, Anil went on to deliver blockbuster hits and established a strong market presence in Bollywood. Now, after more than four decades, reports suggest that Anil Kapoor is all set to make a re entry into Telugu cinema.
Director Venky Atluri has reportedly approached him for a key role in his upcoming entertainer starring Suriya. If confirmed, this project would gain extra hype in the North as well. However, it remains to be seen whether Anil has given the green signal, as he is extremely busy with Hindi films and web series, making his dates hard to secure.
It will be interesting to see how Venky Atluri plans this. Though Anil Kapoor recently shared screen space with Jr NTR in War 2, that does not count as a Telugu comeback since it is a Hindi film. But the Suriya project is being shot as a bilingual in both Telugu and Tamil, not as a dubbed version. That makes it a true re entry for Anil in Telugu cinema.
A Suriya and Anil Kapoor combination will surely look fresh on screen. The film is being produced by Sithara Entertainments on a massive budget and is targeted for a summer 2026 release. With Karuppu wrapped up, Suriya’s full focus is now on this project.
