Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1, the prequel to the blockbuster fantasy magnum opus Kantara, was released across the world yesterday. Thanks to the phenomenal success of the first part, the expectations among movie lovers for the prequel were quite high.
Not disappointing anyone, Kantara Chapter 1 collected close to Rs 90 crore on its opening day. The film’s Hindi version particularly had a strong opening in the Hindi belt, amassing approximately Rs 20 crore on the Dussehra festive day. With the weekend kicking in, Kantara Chapter 1 has set its eyes on the Rs 50 crore club by the end of its opening weekend in Hindi.
In 2022, Kantara’s Hindi version ended its theatrical run by collecting close to Rs 80 crore nett in its full run. Now, despite the low buzz, Kantara Chapter 1 managed to mint around Rs 20 crore nett in the Hindi market on its first day. Interestingly, the Hindi version’s collection is more or less close to the Kannada version in India.
Kantara Chapter 1 has ample doses of religious flavour, and if the Hindi audiences own this movie, we don’t know how far Kantara Chapter 1 will go. At the Indian box office. As per the initial estimates, Chapter 1’s Hindi version alone will surely surpass the Rs 100 crore milestone in India.
On its opening day, Kantara Chapter 1’s Hindi version registered the sixth-highest opening among the Indian movies in 2025. The film is next only to War 2 (Rs 52.5 Cr), Chhaava (Rs 33.10 Cr), Sikandar (Rs 30.06 Cr), Housefull 5 (Rs 24.35 Cr), and Saiyaara (Rs 22 Cr).
