Many believe Telugu talent should get more opportunities in their own industry. However, in recent years, several Telugu actresses are finding bigger roles and recognition in other languages, especially Tamil cinema. While they started in Telugu films, wider fame often comes from projects outside their home state.
Sri Gouri Priya, from Kakinada, had small roles in Telugu films before landing lead roles in Writer Padmabushan and MAD. These films gave her some recognition among Telugu audiences, but she became more popular with the Tamil film LOVER, released last year. She also appeared in a Tamil web series – Modern Love Chennai. Her upcoming Tamil film is Bro Code, a comedy-drama starring Ravi Mohan.
Hyderabad-based Saanve Meghana made her lead debut with Pushpaka Vimanam in Telugu. Later Telugu films did not bring her much attention. Her Tamil debut, Kudumbasthan, however, gave her notable fame. She also featured in Sai Abhyankar’s Tamil music video Vizhi Veekura, which went viral.
Maanasa Choudary debuted in Telugu cinema with Bubblegum and had brief roles in a few other films. Earlier this year, she appeared in the Tamil film DNA, which gave her initial recognition. She is now set for another Tamil film, Aaryan, an investigative crime thriller scheduled to release on October 31.
These examples show that many Telugu actresses are progressively finding greater success in Tamil cinema, with opportunities outside their home industry helping them gain wider recognition and expand their careers.
