Small Movie Dominates Varanasi Villain’s Film At Box Office

Prithviraj Sukumaran, who is playing the antagonist role in SS Rajamouli and Superstar Mahesh Babu’s upcoming film “Vaaranasi”, came up with his new Malayalam film “Vilayath Buddha” the other day. Despite his huge stardom in the state, the film is now dominated by a small-budget movie called “Eko” at the Malayalam box office.

Though Vilayath Buddha opened well at the box office, the typical commercial content with no exciting factor made audiences reject the film. Also, right before the film’s release, many people felt that the trailer reminded them of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa. They predicted to click well considering Prithvi’s stardom.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj had already done two brilliant films based on ego clash, Ayyappanum Koshiyum and Driving License, in the past. So, audiences expected more when he was coming up with another film based on ego-clash. However, Vilayath Buddha failed to reach any of those expectations from fans.

On the other side, Eko, a mystery-thriller, featuring a relatively newcomer as the lead hero, opened to a positive note at the box office. Though the collections were low during morning shows, they picked up by evening and night shows due to positive word of mouth. Now, it is clear that Eko will dominate the box office this weekend as Vilayath Buddha has already crashed.

With this, it has again been proved that audiences of this generation prefer content over stardom, and they would go watch a good film anyway, even if it competes with a routine, star-driven commercial masala movie.
