Aishwarya Rai, who recently appeared in Andhra Pradesh for the 100th-year centennial celebration of Sri Sathya Sai Baba in Puttaparthi, didn’t hold back on speaking about street harassment.
At a beauty brand event, someone asked her about it, and she just said it straight. Her message was clear, women shouldn’t be blamed for what they wear or how they look.
She also gave some simple advice. Don’t hide, don’t look down, don’t try to shrink yourself. “Look directly in the eyes. Hold your head high,” she said. The line that caught everyone’s attention, “Don’t blame your dress or your lipstick.” People reacted online, some thanked her, others just wrote, “Finally, someone said it.”
While a section of netizens commented that, sadly and unacceptably, a girl’s dressing sense might also have an impact, the majority strongly condemned such views, stating that it is entirely a woman’s own choice how she dresses.
On the movie side, she’s still riding the wave of Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2. The film did really well, making around ₹345 crore worldwide. Even without a new release, she stays visible, in films or just talking honestly like this.
